Itinerant Air-Cooled

Colin will/may correct me here, but I'm going to guess this was one of his least grueling visits, at least from a physical perspective. Mentally, of course he is always on...unless he's trying to pound out a wrist pin with the circlip still installed, or explaining how valves work with a full beer in his hand...but I digress.

Bottom line...pistons and cylinders were very usable, endplay was just at the outer end of spec (.006") lifters...ehhh... they were a bit dished, camshaft...yeah it's toast. dang it, dang it, dang it.

He basically said I had two options. bolt it back together as-is, and see how long it runs, or, do a total rebuild. So, total rebuild it is.

It was good to see Don again (as always!) , and it was very refreshing to meet Vince and his wife....awesome to see 'new blood' enjoying the quirky VW A/C addiction. Chocolate chip cookies were PHENOMENAL!

Troll! We did not need the wiring harness after all. The wiper had merely gotten stuck off the board on the rich side.

That is awesome news!

Thanks for hosting, Mike. It was great to see you, your spouse and Colin again, and to meet Vince and Sam. Nice weather, good eats, beer and conversation, a perfect evening. I did hope to let my bus out of captivity for the first time this year and bring her along, but as time ran short and with over 100 miles to cover, the Volt won out. Maybe next year.

Unless you trade in your cut-offs and wife beaters for a black leather jacket, and start saying "Aaaahhyyy!" I don't think you have to worry about jumping the shark.
