John, I am sorry you still have an oil leak. You need to drive it and forget about it. Keep your air filtration system in good shape, because you want to to do dusty dirty roads for some time. Then you may get blessed with a tell-tale track when you go back in. Do you feel comfortable with your cleanliness/torque/sealing of the gallery plugs? Geesh, what else is there? Cam plug?

I do intend to drive it and just add oil as necessary. The oil gallery plugs are solidly in there, but I suppose a leak due to the messed up threads could still cause issues. If so, that's a case-level problem, and I am prepared to just live with it.

And it does drive like a demon, with those dual Webers. That pickup really goes!

With that settled, such as it is, and with Ann the Van and Jelly Bean with new enthusiastic owners, I finally have no urgent bus work hanging over me. That is the first time in many years. Which means that I can enjoy the truck, and use it for actual pickup truck work (hauling stuff to the dump or the Habitat for Humanity Restore, getting mulch, sitting in the back at outdoor concerts) and have fun.

One more bus to find a new home for: The wrecked 1974 Westy, a.k.a. the mobile storage unit. Then I will be down to just the two pickups.

She's got you, jtauxe. Merriam-Webster reports usage back in 1843. Y'all prescriptivist grammarians need to give it up--English's strength lies precisely in its malleability.

You might want to consider trying UV dye in your oil to identify the source of the leak: https://www.amazon.com/Tracer-Products- ... B000JFHNTM

No, never. I shan't give up my mouldy old traditional usage of the English language as I know it. Nor shall I be tarred with such labels as "prescriptivist", because I am not prescribing the correct usage of the language, I am referring to the correct usage of the language, and I ain't never go do no verbing of nouns like "impacting". Oh hail no, Mitch.

tar1
tär/Submit
verb
past tense: tarred; past participle: tarred

It is an allowable and referred to prescription for the use of the verb "tar," is it not?

Hayer, hayerz an example for you hoity-toity pruffessory types:
"becuz y'all tarred too long, we done mist the prevuze."

“Tarred” is a great, descriptive word. Once tarred, it is difficult to clean the stuff off, as anyone knows who has messed with the stuff, either through road work or roofing, or politics. It is also quite visible on ones person, bringing little children to exclaim, “look, mama, that man has black gunk all over him!” And mama then says, “child, he’s tarred, and I don’t mean sleepy.” Washington is full of people today who are playing with tar.

I'm a get tarred today, both ways. Engine out at SG Kent's news at 11.

Will you do it there, at SG Kent’s, or find some gawdforsaken spot on the way to Richmond, like possibly Grizzly Island, to do that pilot bearing?

SGKent has the hookup on good local BBQ, which has been known to attract me… Plus this would be three years in a row that an engine has come out at his place, yes? :pirate:

Well, the first time was only a 6" drop to get at that gas tank.

The second time was a parts-all-over-the-place.

This time was tidy and quick:

When you did the 6" drop, did you keep the tranny attached? And did you have to detach the CV joints?
