I am trying to keep a lid on a lot of nonsense in my life right now.

I've heard it said that nonsense is better than no sense at all...

Looking forward to your annual Portland visit. Hopefully it'll actually be SUNNY AND WARM by the end of July, we are SO SICK of rain and cold here...

I will try to bring sunny and warm. It is 88* and sunny here in Atlanta.

Did Chloe survive? A little course of antibiotics solve the case of the shudder?

Supposed to be pushing a nice, humid 90 degrees by the beginning of next week, but hey, this is Michigan...may be in the 50's when you visit. :blackeye:

Looks like Hippie, Wes's dad Jeff, and DJ/Droper from Carleton swinging by Monday late afternoon for a social visit. Anyone else interested, send me a PM and will provide my contact info.

Hey Colin, bit the bullet tonight, and cut the seal out on the windshield. Good news is no rust through just surface rust, so will be able to get all the prep work done on Saturday and shoot the lip Sunday am...plenty of time to cure before you get here Monday.

BTW - Calling for a high of only 76...but it will be sunny!

I can barely follow this conversation. So, yeah, generator bearings look like they will allow me to make it to the west coast, but I have not yet filled you in on the horrendous details of the War To Remove The Old Bearings From The Armature.

I have a press and special pullers etc to remove bearings... I am thinking it is the starter that has that special split ring on the end that is a one time install. That said I seem to recall that the generator bearings sometimes eat the housing away so the bearing no longer is a snug fit. Somewhere in this USA should be a pile of about one million 38 amp generators and 6 - 10 million 30 amp generators. One would think there would be lots of good cores around, and it would make more sense to snag one, have the armature turned and growled then rebuild it. Swap and do the same to the old one that came out to keep as a spare.

Did you buy a spare crankshaft from the folks I referred you to, and if so are you rebuilding your engine here? Robbie asked me about crankshaft grinders and I found one in LA that does outstanding work. They do a lot for the racing world. I don't know what their lead time is. If one only needs a polish and clean that is easy at home. But we need to know if you are planning on stopping here for a week or so to do the work.

You going to be at the Lucky Lab July 31st?

You going to invite me over for a sit?
Where?

I don't know what is happening in Portland. I have no reason to be in Portland but to serve you, my esteemed customers and to visit you, my esteemed friend. So invite me over. As you can see, it is a tight little schedule these days. No more ten-call marathons in Portland anymore. They all patronize some local guy.

More stops in Eureka than in Portland?

When your job is teaching those to fix things themselves, a true sign of accomplishment is *not* having too many repeat customers.

Luckily, some of us forget it all a year or so later and need the nearly yearly reminder of wrights and rongs.
