It helps me meet people. It is so boring having a perfect Volkswagen year after year.

Nobody takes interest or pity with:
"WOW! That is a beautiful van! Did you restore it?
"Naw, I just wash the windows occasionally."
"OK, bye."

You know, this Volkswagen here has been utterly flawless so far. The smoothest, quietest, most demure VW I have ever driven. I have spent $0.00 on repairs in the past 13,000 miles. It is getting 16-20 mpg, the original brake fluid soaked rear shoes have been fine, I haven't checked the dwell or timing since Atlanta. YAWN.

So much better with:
"HEY BUDDY, WHAT THE H*LL ARE YOU DOING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAMN ROAD?"
"F*CK YOU A$$HOLE, MY FUEL FILTER IS CLOGGED."
"GET RID OF THAT PIECE OF SH*T AND DRIVE A REAL CAR!"
"YOU CALL THAT CRAPTASTIC PIECE OF PLASTIC A 'REAL CAR'? HAH!"

So yes, it is getting a bit tedious to clean the filter a lot, but I do not have the circumstance yet to immobilize this car and get transportation with the tank on my lap to a gas tank cleaning professional, wait for it to be done "next Tuesday, we're slammed" and get it all back in and onwards to meet my appointments.

All right, perhaps one of (us?, we? ) imminent customers could step up and source a tank for you, get it cleaned and waiting for your visit. Call it enlightened self-interest, in the spirit of helping to ensure a future supply of Itinerant Tutelage.
Not to put a crimp in your people-meeting agenda, of course.
