Pictures? With family on the road? Do you have a write up on your restoration? Brings tears to my eyes, getting these buses on the road one bloddy fingernail at a time. Speaking of "bloddy", I am trying to get another bus back on the road, and must scat.

(p.s. I have had to release the "secret" due to such bizarre comings and goings that I had to tell my "Virginia" why. We, you all and I, are:
*replacing sliding door seal
*replacing front sliding door latch
*replacing windshield/rust repair on channel
*replacing front door seals
*new passenger door handle/front felt channel
*new driver's door stay + metal work on door/door pull
*new vapor barriers
*new CV boots + repack
*tune-up/oil change
*starter solenoid repair (pray for flywheel teeth, all of us)
*maybe roof rack install
*maybe exhaust system r&r&repaint
*brakes
. . . I am running out of time and traffic ain't helping, must jet)

A couple of pictures:

The view looking out over Interstate Auto Parts in Lake Elsinore:

Image

Pulled the windshield to address the bane of our buses, the windshield channel:

Image

Right side vapor barrier installed. I like the thinner plastic sheeting, it lays down cooperatively:

Image

My assistant and recipient of the Secret Santa In June has been a real trouper in this marathon. Here she is removing the passenger door seal:

Image

After the windshield channel repair, we decided to close up the opening for the night. It was a confetti of flapping plastic and tape before we barely tamed it:

Image

Topcoat of L90D with hardener in my little Preval sprayer. Just like when I was in Pensacola, I shook the damn sprayer like a paint can and splatted myself with paint from the vent. Even with warnings from witnesses, I shook it again when the nozzle faltered. The tape holding up the plastic "tarp" let go in the intermittent breeze, so I was doubly-distracted by not wanting to spray the interior (read: black dashboard) with white paint:

Image

Combining painting and interior work with axle repacking is a recipe for a lot of handwashing:

Image

We got all the new seals on yesterday, fixed the horn and installed it the right way around (?!), put in a new driver's door pull, matching window winders, came up with a Rube Goldberg collection of serious fender washers and nuts and bolts to trap the driver's door stay in place on damaged door sheetmetal, tapped and repaired the frame nuts that hold the back bumper on, and willy-nilly lubricated everything that moves. Installed a pair of NOS front turn indicator lenses, man, that was like religious.
Must get back to finish the brakes and engine work, then scat to Newhall. It has been a pleasure to jump in and give Elwood some attention. Your contributions added a luminescence to this visit, a sense of community involvement was behind every task, and I sure do appreciate your helping the mission to keep these cars healthy and happy. Elwood has The Vibe, the Volkswagen Vibe (as does his owner):

If anyone deserves a secret-Colin it's Barb. Glad to see that bus still happy!

Awesome, happy to see this came together. =)
Never realized that Elwood was on the front of the Bus Tour art piece. Quite fitting from what I've heard.

Wait a... Irvine? Arid desert hills? Lake Elsinore? Newhall?

Well, I had a lump in my throat when I left, I had to make it a very business-like, "Okay. Bye."
Barb sort of grows on you with her stories and enthusiasm and affection for her trusty Elwood and the most spoiled cat ever. She was very gracious in the presence of my Very Own List, and she was patient with my spastic efforts to extract a cup of coffee from the kitchen. I had stern admonishments under my breath for Elwood to graciously open his doors even with new seals and close them easily (even with new seals).

We did a little test drive, and I got to see Barb and Elwood together in action and it made me want to go get Chloe. They drove to the Arctic Circle. Yes, there is more work to do, I might try to steal away up the hill one more time to DETAIL Elwood, just leave me be, no tools, no grease, just wash and wax and detail. I cannot speak for Barb, but thank you for your contributions to Elwood's Continuing Service.
Why, here's Barb and Elwood now . . .
