Thanksgiving warmup

Post by Ritter » Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:41 pm

Camping with some of the VW Camperfamily locals last weekend to prepare for the holidays. We had great company, food, possibly too much wine and a whole lot of rain.

Turkeys were boiled:

Gluttony ensued under the Tent of Doom (note the rain mist coming through):

Carbon was liberated:

Campsites were shared (too damn cold to pop the tops):

Boiled in peanut oil. Ritter forgot to mention that.

He also forgot to mention the mandolins and guitar, the hike he and his wife took to the old (but still working) grist mill adjacent to the campground, and our toasts to Static, who was separated from us by about a third of the earth's diameter.

As for the misting through the tent canvas, it really wasn't too bad ... no worse than camping in the fog by the ocean.

Man I miss camping more than anything...it's my cocaine-monkey. Maybe if Gypsie ever fixes his van we can swing 1 more trip this year.

Isn't boiling in oil considered deep-frying?

I'm grilling mine on a Weber tomorrow. I just put it in the giant bag with brine in a cooler with ice till then. Probably will start at noon tomorrow. It's about 13 pounds. If anyone wants to stop by, yer welcome. Highland Park, Illinois.
