2nd Annual 420 Birthday Memorial Campout April 23-25 2010

Post by hambone » Mon Apr 19, 2010 8:28 am

This weekend, why not be spontaneous?
I will have Eva. It will be a splendid time. Looks to be somewhat decent weather too. Not very far from Portland at all.

Grouse Huxley Camp (@ the end of 4611) just south of Huxley Lake

4611 is no longer shown on Googlemaps:

hambone's Directions:
224 thru Estacada.
Climb the big grade and drop into the Clackamas. After only a mile or so, turn LEFT onto 4610. Look for SILVER FOX RV PARK big sign.
Turn immediately left at the junction and begin to climb up on nicely paved 4610, a series of switchbacks. The road will turn to gravel as you follow a straight old railroad grade. Neat.
After about 7 miles, turn RIGHT onto 4611. (This will be the first road on your right since climbing out of the Clacky)
Follow 4611 6 miles to the end at Grouse-Huxley Camp. It gets adventureous towards the end, but it you take it slow it's no trouble at all. Keep an eye out for ruts and puddles.

Is this the place just you and I went last year?

Wish I could make it but I just have to much crap to do this weekend.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

I will be sulking at both of Siobhan's softball games on Saturday, wishing I could go birthday camping (mine is Friday you know).

M, I think we should band together and plan a campout at the NW corner of Oregon. Lets see if those big city boys can drive 5 hours to the campsite.

Not the campground at Wallowa Lake, that's for sure. Beautiful lake, area has a great vibe, but that campground is a mini-city. Ich. Thunder Creek was cool.

Hey, I've been tossing around the idea of a campout towards your direction for awhile now. Haven't posted anything about it 'cuz I need to get my Bus running first...

The timing for me is horrible as well, we have family coming in this weekend to help build a deck and pergola.

I think the first campy trip I will make this year will be Maupin, just the way the cookie crumbles this time around.

I understand. It's weird how we're all wired so differently. If I didn't get a shot of nature until June it would really affect me. I just feel so connected out there, it's hard to explain.

S'OK Hammie, I feel the same way about the coast... what did I do, move farther away, so now I never get down there - sigh.

I'm with you Ham, nature provides the soul and the spirit with great relief from an ever building number of ills. It's a necessity or the body and mind will atrophy. Enjoy the Grouse Huxley for all of us who really wish we could!!

Thanks guys! I can't wait to get out there. Eva in school today, then she's sick tomorrow and we split early in the AM.
I hope the road is still open thru there. Always an adventure.
4611, magic numbers.

2 nice sunny days, one cold cloudy. At least according to the NWS.
