I'm going to be Orcas that Monday thru Thursday, leaving Friday. I'll be in Anacortes the Sunday before.
We'll definitely be up for hopping islands.. probably to Lopez to see you all and hopefully to San Juan as well.

The best navigators aren't sure where they're going until they get there. And then they're still not sure.

I have some friends from college that live on Lopez. One of them grew up there. Her family settled there in the 70's and spent the first three or four years living in an old army tent (7 people). Daddy would harvest trees that were floating in the sound with an outboard motorboat to build their beautiful log home right next to hummell lake. He is now the custodian at the school. Everybody knows everybody else. The island community is a mix of traditional agrifamilies and hippie underground. Lots of wood fired hot tubs and saunas spread over the island. I went up one year over christmas time and skated around on a frozen pond. there is a definite 'community' feel about the place. It is much less traveled than the others which is nice during the summer.
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

Kind of reminds me of Sauvie Island from the air, lots of agriculture and then the abrupt edge of the water. Amazing how big and vast the world is, so many facets to the same diamond, so much unknown forever. But that's what keeps life new.

Anyone who's planning on making this trip that hasn't made reservations yet better get on it. The spots are filling up FAST. We didn't get the site we wanted and I was on there at midnight last night. Someone swooped in and got site 13 seconds before I did. So we will be in site number 9 Sat 7th-Tues 10th. Gypsie will be in site 7 for the first night and then have to hop over to site 11 for Sun-Tues due to the site not being open on Sat night.
HURRY!!!

Looks like we're out for this one. All the good spots are taken, and extra kash is hard to come by right now anyway. Have fun guys. Too much hooplah at home, I forgot all about the reservation-panic this weekend.

Been meanin' to, though the heat, work, and getting back into the swing has kept the picture uploadin' and write up on the slow track.
I'll give a teaser:
What started with a whiskey drinkin' Goldilocks morphed into seaside nuptials near glowing waters and finished with a rare sighting of 4 peas in a party pickle...
More later.

Okay, a few photos. Didn't take a whole lot of them this trip. We haven't received the pro shots yet.
So the week started out at Deception Pass before we took the short trip into Anacortes to catch the ferry to Lopez Island. The evening was nice and was looking to be a nice week.
A beach on the pass side.
The bridge that crosses Deception Pass. Currents can reach up to 17 knots through the narrow section during tidal changes.
And of course the sunsets are epic in these parts.
The next day we rose early to get on the 8:45 ferry but the weather had taken a bit of a turn. Ended up raining most of the day on Saturday which had us a bit worried about the big event on Sunday. It did make for a very dark evening which was perfect for seeing the phosphorescent tide. A spectacle I have never seen but was amazed by. To see the water light up and glow when disturbed by a pebble or hand full of sand was something I'll never forget. Not to mention the glowing/blinking Jelly Fish. It was a psychedelic trip without any substance to aid in the experience. Nature is truly amazing.
This was about all of the sun we saw that day until around 6:00pm.
But with a new day the sun was once again back just in time for this....
The Gypsie crew was even able to join us for the occasion.
And the resident Bald Eagle.
Again, the sunsets, stunning.
Monday morning had us back in the clouds and drizzle but only for a couple hours. Kept the tiki decorations by Mrs. Gypsie fresh.
Soon the clouds began to burn off and we were back in the sun again.
Would have loved to have nothing but sun but the clouds sure did make for spectacular evenings.
Wednesday we packed up and headed to Orcas Island to finish out the week where we met up with Wayne and family in Moran State Park.
On Friday we took a drive up to the top of Mt. Constitution, the highest point in the San Juan Islands at 2400ft. On a clear day you can see forever. Unfortunately the wild fires to the north in Canada had put quite a bit of haze into the horizon. Still, it was warm with great views.
That's pretty much all I took photos of this year. I hope more folks can join us for next years trip. It really is a beautiful place and worth the time.
