IAC 2009 Midwestern Fall Extravaganza!

Post by chitwnvw » Mon Aug 31, 2009 8:21 am

Ok boys and girls, pack up that bus and get ready for a bit of camping. I think we should shoot for the end of September, early October for optimum fall camping (not too cold, no bugs).

I am going to throw out the Galena location since it seems fairly central to all of those who will be coming, but nothing is settled.

So weigh in, September 25-27 or October 2-4, at the Wooded Wonderland, just outside Galena, IL.

I'm planning on heading north to the U.P. from the 27th to the 4th. Shoot.

Any of you midwesties reading this headed to WI for labor day weekend?....We'll be in the Adams Friendship/Necedah area this weekend with a couple of other buses.

We'll be headed up to Door County for Labor Day :bounce:

I might be able to swing thru Galena over the 10/2-4 weekend.

We just drove thru Galena this past weekend on our way to/from Dubuque, IA to visit family. It's such a beautiful drive.

Were you in the Bus? We just came from camping at Pikes Peak down through Dubuque at the end of last week, and yes very beautiful country. Corn never looked so beautiful as it does on those rolling hills.

No, not in the bus this time:(

How is Pike's Peak? We went to The Mines of Spain just outside Dubuque and hiked around. It's a really neat spot. The trails go thru former limestone quarries and there are excellent views of the river.

Spotted a yellow bus(1972?) in Dubuque and a really nice sage green Westy on Route 59 and I90.

All the way up the Mississippi coast is gorgeous. We took some county roads and it really takes your breath away.

Pikes Peak campground was 90 % empty, so we just set up camp in an empty corner. The views of the valley were spectacular and the seeing the Indian mounds was very cool.

I'm supposed to go mountain biking in Brown County IN near Mount Hoosier the first weekend in October. Supposed to have some sweet trails there.

September is pretty much booked for me too. I am driving to Kansas to see my dad.

I think we need way more time to get everyone schedules together.

How about some winter camping in Wisconsin. We can go ice fishing. I've always wanted to do that.

If I don't go camping at least every 3 weeks I go quickly insane.

So it must have been a while since you've gone.

I will check on the dates. I know we are busy the last weekend in September. There is an outside chance of making the first weekend in
October. I will check back when I know more. I know that this would exclude our out of town members but how about a meet and greet for the chicagoland buses sometime before the snow flies??? Something like a lucky lab but for the chicagoland community.
I'm all out of ideas and I've tried nothing.

Sounds like a good idea. Start a new thread. I suggest doing something off of I-90 seems like most of us are around or close to the corridor.

I-90 works for me. There are a couple of hot dog stand type joints off Western Ave with plenty of parking near me if anyone wants to drive into the city. But I doubt anyone wants to do that.
