Beyond Maupin...
We had planned to camp for a few days after Maupin this year and I wanted to share some of the pix from the trip..
Sunday, after a quick test drive with Colin and a tentative thumbs up. (there were a few issues that I already fell on my sword in another thread...)
We headed over to the little town of Shaniko. Quaint little Ghost town that is slowly getting ghostier.
Just beyond is the road to Fossil that slides down into a curly snake of a road into the desert.
Breathtakingly beautiful Views:
My wife has a thing for old barns. one of her greatest fantasies is to have a 'barn' style house. I have always liked grokking the process of decay of houses and such. The ones in the desert seem to get locked in time while they slowly sag back into the earth.
Here are a few of the ones we got this trip:
This one is my Fave:
Shortly after setting out on the road, my ladies started to get carsick. My daughter was just feeling a little nausious, but my wife was full on hurling.
We had to pull over every ten minutes or so for a ten minute break/purge session.
Not one to let a batch of lemons go to waste, I took th opportunity to take some pix of the Wagon in it's natural surroundings... namely outside.
There were other things to see too. Would've missed em had we not stopped.
contrast...
line...
Texture..
scale of time/space...(how many raindrops, wind gusts, sand grains, and lapping waves from long gone waters over how many years do you think it took to make this cliffside...)
I like to call the little wildflowers forest secrets. I was sitting quietly and the desert told me one of her secrets...
The birth of a baby sage...
For those that don't know, the columbia gorge has what has been described 'world class wind'.
Well we passed a training camp as we neared the river.
there Were excercise machines
And warm up footraces...

All for the big meet...
This reminds me of the little Butterfly convention we stumbled on last year on our Montana trip
Stopped at Hood River for refreshments and leg stretching when I saw this little gem...
I liked the trailerqueen behind it....
Fun times.

Gypsie, fun times indeed - thanks much for sharing the great photos! =D> Donja jes love wanderin' in a bus? . . . especially when there is so much eye candy around! Happy trails indeed!!
Has Mom ever tried motion sickness remedies/preventatives? Does she drive? . . . . to put her focus on the road and off the gut?
