Hunter's Moon & "Sausage Festival" - Nov 7-9

Post by hambone » Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:23 am

Yeah it's early but one of my favorites.
Elk Lake Creek is closed this year but I have a couple suggestions.
How does the second weekend in October look?
For me it would be 10-9-08 onward. That's actually 2 days before the official hunter's moon but who camps midweek????? Lucky people I guess.

The weather can do lots of things at that time of year, but I'm tentatively proposing Rhododendron Creek or Cache Meadow, both in the Clackamas District.
More details to follow!

Sounds good. One of my favorites as well, I think we should do a dutch oven cooking extravaganza for this one and someone better hook us up with some pumpkin pie :blackeye:

Can we hold off on *firm* dates for awhile? I must make this one but my crystal ball gets cloudy when I try to make it work more then a couple weeks ahead.

You have the nose for the good spots Hammie, anyplace you suggest is fine by me.

Thanks, I do like to get out there. It's cool to be able to share the fun.
The only reason I picked tentative dates was the hunter's moon. I'd say early October tho if that would work. I sure hope we don't have an early winter this year!!!! But I wouldn't be surprised based on what's happened so far.

Might be tight for me to make that weekend but I'll sure try and be there. That would be the weekend after I get home from hunting.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

Cache Meadow:

The meadow and Cripple Lake are down a couple very nice trails from the campsite.

Someone is being funny! So much for a pic of Cache Meadow. Ok it's funny I'll leave it.

Here's a link to a map. Bob's Buck Camp! I like it.

Hunting season, we should try to avoid it. Hasn't caused me trouble in the past but ya never know.
Also, it gets considerably colder in late Oct than early. Snow may be an issue as well.
We'll just haveta see.

General Seasons
Western Deer Centerfire
Cascade Buck Area Oct. 4 - Oct. 17 & Oct. 25 - Nov. 7

Cascade Bull Elk Centerfire
-- Oct. 18 - Oct. 24 Cascade Elk

Rocky Mt Bull Elk Centerfire
First Season Oct. 29 - Nov. 2
First Season - Columbia Basin Extended Season Oct. 29 - Dec. 5
Second Season Nov. 8 - Nov. 16

Also I do need to request time off ahead of time, so the sooner we can pick a date the better.

Wet Westies are camping at Bridge Creek in Leavenworth the weekend of Oct. 3-5.
I fly back from the eastern seaboard in time for this camp out. I have already asked hubby if I can go... He doesn't do VW's.
Cheers

We might be able to make this if we can agree on a date! We're going to be re-sealing Tobias soon so we can camp in non-sunny conditions, hopefully we'll have this done in the next 2 weeks! Anyone wanna swing by and lend a hand?? Beer, food, homemade ice cream, pie.....requests????
