Wonders of Oregon

Post by DjEep » Thu Feb 21, 2008 12:54 am

I just wanted to thank you guys for letting me in on this little secret called Oregon. While I may have drama going on in my "real" life, I can now leave it all behind any time to spend the night in the woods.

In Cali, it was a four hour drive to get anywhere where one could just pull the bus over and camp. Otherwise it was two hours, 25 bucks for a site, and another 30 for fire wood.

Here it's an hour, mostly on forest roads, no fees, wood is free all around, and cheap as heck at the store if you just have to have some dry stuff to get the fire going on a soggy morning. Scenery is fantastic, from the coast to the snow to the desert.

How do you other OR guys go for months without going camping or going crazy?

Where I live is like camping everyday, that way I avoid the drive "out of town". I can see Mount Mazama (Crater Lake) all the way to Mt McLoughin from my front yard. Overlooking a snowcapped Cascade range is looking at Heaven.
Always looking for one more...

That sounds like it SUCKS!!!! :geek:

It is great living around these parts, I grew up in Utah so I am used to the easy access to amazing sights but the NW has a nice combination of a lot of things that you can't get elsewhere...and they are CLOSE!!!

Native Oregonian, born and raised. Desert, ocean, wilderness, rain forest all within 2-3 hours drive. Never have wanted to live anywhere else. Although that one year in Hawaii wasn't half bad.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

I reckon you could spend a few lifetimes there and not be bored. Illinois still fascinates me believe it or not. It's been raped long and hard but I'll be damned if it ain't got some shit to bring a tear to your eye if you're really lookin. Every place has it's original stuff that makes it what it is and was -still in little pockets. Damn John Deere! Oh well, we gotta learn.

Yeah, I pretty much hate camping and the outdoors. Gives me claustrophobia big time. HAH! I camp as much as I can....and then spend most of my summer outside pushing a driftboat down the river and camping  . Can't think of anywhere besides Oregon I wanna be.
