Robbie on the Oregon Trail Camp - July 21 -24 2016

Post by hambone » Wed Jun 29, 2016 9:05 pm

Heart of the Oregon camping season, our friend Asiab3 will b here just for a spell, heading East on a madman's journey with Bus. It would be a good weekend to keep free on your calendar, tell it "Bob said so" and leave it at that.

Location TBD, depends on how far along I get with my weird July, if that is OK with all of you. Someplace in MHNF in the High Country.
This is posted as a courtesty for those of you with schedules.
History! We are living it. Living proof.

COLIN you can even come out for a night! Hell I'd stay an extra day for that.

It shall be so! A few people on TheSamba were fighting over that weekend for various get togethers, but I would rather hang out in the woods. And now you're saying good people from Oregon might be in the woods too? I'm so there!

Got bus/house/camper/domicile... will camp too!

So what is up with you Portland people? It sure was lovely out in the old forests. Are we still going to have this camp?
I am also leaving again in a few days. If there is no interest maybe make it a Lucky Lab thing...

I'm aiming for this, just need to know WHERE TO GO. Can head out Thursday morning or potentially Wednesday evening but have to head back to Portland Saturday morning -- I've got Saturday off work, but the annual Pythian lodge BBQ/picnic is that afternoon and I'm on weenie burning duty. No burnt weenie sandwiches without burnt weenies...

Hal you are a busy guy! I have to possibly bring Eva back to Portland on the 21st, then head back out there, unless there is another way! Long haul.
Depending on how far south I get, should be somewhere around Clackamas Lake. I'll know more next week, or we can have it someplace pre-determined.

High Rock? I know it's not Skyline Trail but it's high country MHNF and pretty easy to get to.

We should have it at Summit Lk, bus camp last year you missed it.
I will be in that area. Other option is to join me "Colin Style" down a logging road camping. It's actually been a lot of fun.
And I quote myself:
There is a lake with campground, only 2 pull in sites the rest walkin. Supposed to be light use...Summit Lk.
$15 a nite, but they don't check.

I am in favor of any of the above sites. I have also had tremendous luck recently with "driving on a dirt road until the spirit moves me."

I have an engagement in Portland on the evening of the 20th, and then I am free for the festivities.

Funny I have rejected crappy camps for years, looking for ancient trees etc. Now that I have a mission, the crappy camps are actually fun and often beautiful. Unfortunately modern "trail heads" intersect old trails and new roads, leaving little option but the side of the road.
NOW the ancient camps, with Native traces are the best. Thousands of years and still a campsite? How is that possible?

I have been trying to rally Portland people but they are an insular bunch, worried about tending rose bushes and such. I am leaving in only a couple days, so please let me know if this is still happening! Otherwise I'll continue on the OST.

The what now?

From the map linked in last year's thread, we can get there from the 4/20 camp location -- Alex, remember how we were talking about checking out Peavine Road but never getting around to it?

I hear Gypsie is coming out Wed nite. Maybe we should go to Summit on Thurs? So we can snag the good spots. I will already be out in the area.
The Skyline is only a couple miles to the east of Summit Lk maybe we can day-commute to the trail one of the days if you guys are interested, find a couple miles.
Easy to find, not far from Portland in the wilderness, and well-loaded poop shack. What's not to love.
PS no fish in that thar lake but warm fer swimmin'.

Like I was saying, I'm game for leaving Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. I have to be back in Portland on Saturday morning at the latest, meeting with a couple of guys @09:30 to go to Cash & Carry and get ready for the wingding.

Should I X-post to the IAC Facebook group and tag Melissa?
