Thanks for reading, the camp section has been quiet lately.
Would love to get out to John Day Country but have to see if I can afford it...pretty much 1.5 tanks of gas to John D. VS .5 tank if we go to Fanton or Plaza. Basically another $40. Supposed to be dry this weekend either place. Think it will be busy out there with hunting season and 224 closed? Hard to tell.
Jasan really glad you're going, it's been a long time, relatively. You too Sluggo. Can't wait.

Planning on heading out early Friday and coming back early Monday.

BTW there is a meeting in Estacada on Wed. night, they want to close many more roads in the Clackamas. Think it's at the ranger station. I'd go but I can't.

I like John Day. The opportunity to fish is always a big plus. Can't make it until Friday the 7th though. I have a doctors appointment at noon and then I'll be heading straight to camp.

BASTARDS!!!!!!!!! :angryfire: This Wednesday? What time? Why can't you make it?

They should just put up signs that say "use at your own risk", "non-maintained road" or whatever. It would be cheaper than digging trenches and dragging boulders over the road. I'm a big boy and I know what my vehicle can handle. (says the guy who almost flipped into a small gully at little badger creek.)

I agree Sluggo,
Winching their boulders back in place to fill holes so you can access the campsite takes the whole weekend. :blackeye:
Really though, a simple sign stating unmaintained road has to be much cheaper than digging it up.
Hammy, go to the meeting.

Kid's birthday, what can you do?
Thinking about Squaw Lakes, there are supposed to be fish in there. Really ancient place, Indians used to camp there etc. A lot closer to town. We'll see. Would you be allright with that? It's on the way to 2 Springs, right off 4610.

P.S. Plaza forecast:
Friday Partly sunny, with a high near 49.
Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 35.
Saturday Sunny, with a high near 57.
Saturday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.
Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 52.
Sunday Night A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38.
Monday A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 51.

I can live with it.

P.S. again:
the meeting is at 5:30 in Estacada. Here is more info:

So where are we going?

Don says 4610 is open, so it looks like we can get to Squaw/Plaza country.
Directions:

OR224 East to Estacada

Pass thru Estacada, stay on 224 for 6.5 miles.

Opposite Promontory Park, turn left at a sign for Silver Fox RV Park, then veer left almost immediately on Forest Service 4610.

Stay on this mostly gravel road for 18.4 miles. Keep an eye out for 4610 signs but don't count on it...you can also go by your odometer. Fork left at 7.1 miles, turn right at 8 miles, and fork left at 17 miles. But if you follow the map it should be pretty obvious.

The camp:
We will either be 1/2 mile BEFORE Squaw Meadows (watch for a small spur road to your left). If we/the orange hubcap aren't there then keep going down 4610 to Twin Sprongs. Plan C? Keep going down 4610 to Plaza lake, about another mile from 2 Sprs.

If for whatever reason 224 is shut down, you can get to 4610 via Fall Creek/Tumala road and 4614. Check the map, take a left just before the big plunge down to North Fork.

Google maps for the map illiterate:

Heading out tomorrow morning, and thanks for being flexible with the destination - I really appreciate it. It will be great to see you guys I needs some friendly faces.

Man did I need that. Been way to long since I had a VW camp. Couldn't get much better weather for November in Oregon. To bad it fell apart Sunday. I'm seeing blue sky here at home so you guys might get another nice night. That road was a small creek coming down this morning. Took me an hour and a half to get out of there.

Thanks Neal. I came around the corner and was greeted by that surreal scene that just captured the morning.
