March 7-10 "Out of the Dark Tunnel" Camp 2013

Post by hambone » Thu Feb 14, 2013 11:15 am

The dark tunnel being the long dark NW winter.
Cot Creek, snow permitting. If not then somewhere lower in the MHNF, but other than blizzards I am insane from these 4 walls.

Have I camped with you there? That washed out bridge looks familiar. I'm putting it on the calendar. Jill has outdoor school coming up but I don't think that's till the end of the month.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

It's pretty close to Harriet Lake BTW so it's not terribly far.

Crap, I just remembered that is Jill's birthday weekend. Could we move it out one week?

Yep. Don't forget Badger Creek, early April?
I was supposed to go today for an overnight but decided staying home and arguing would be much more productive. Man I gotta go soon before I go nuts, but the weather is supposed to be crappy next week.

I am also considering the infamous Mud Camp AKA "Grouse-Huxley Camp".

Every year we wonder if that road will still be there...
Where is Sluggo? Man I haven't seen him in months. He's usually all over this stuff.

I saw 'im at Nehelem, that's my last sighting.

At that spot you speak of, are there ruins? or just overgrown "roads"?

No buildings, but there are abandoned railroad grades and logging remnants everywhere. LaDee Flat was hit pretty hard by logging camps in the early days, including steam railroads. It's a pretty freaky place. That 4611 Road is one hell of a drive.

Read this if you have time on your hands, very interesting about LaDee in those days:

If that road is iffy in the summer I'd just as soon play it a bit safer and go for the Cot Creek camp this time of year. Just my two bits.

I agree with Westy78.

March 9-10 weekend works for me and depending on weather could make it Friday evening.
March 16 / 17 works better as I have Friday off and could come up Thursday evening or early Friday morning but, don't change the date on my account. Just saying.

I agree, that road is pretty crazy. It's pretty cool out there though, maybe in June or so.
With all the snow coming this weekend, we may wind up at one of those Clackamas campgrounds, who knows...

Cot Creek ... I'd have to take the long way this time of year to get there...wouldn't I?
