Kettle Moraine South, WI
One of our favorite escapes when we lived in Milwaukee was to visit the State Forest just an hour or so to the east. It's still just as nice, even though we don't rely on it nearly as much to relieve the stress of the city. Just got back from an easy-going reunion with the forest. I won't write much, hopefully the photos will describe the relaxing beauty of one of the largest wetland prairies east of the Rocky Mountains.
I'm in love with the world again.

Re: Kettle Moraine South, WI
beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing these. I hiked this area a LOT with the boy scouts back in the day. The trails are more demanding than you'd expect, in that your constantly climbing either up a little hill or trying not to run back down the other side. It was my first real experience with shin splints.

I know I'm biased but I always have such positive memories of this place. It's one of my favorites, just plain good camping.

Re: Kettle Moraine South, WI
Lovely! Thank you. Never made it up there but read about it, years ago of course...
It's amazing the whole damn world isn't plowed under or buried under concrete. What A World.
1/10 of 1% of pre-White prairie remains intact. That is mind blowing. What remains is of course priceless.

Re: Kettle Moraine South, WI
Pardon me, sped372, but wouldn't an hour so to the east of Milwaukee put you under, what, about 100-150 meters of water? I don't think the intake on your bus would be too happy with that.sped372 wrote:One of our favorite escapes when we lived in Milwaukee was to visit the State Forest just an hour or so to the east. All kidding aside, the Kettle Moraine area to the WEST of Milwaukee is indeed an untouched oasis. I did a ton of cross country skiing in Kettle Moraine back when I lived in Frankin, WI. Let's just say that was sometime last century.

Cripes, you're right! I've always been good with left and right but sometimes east and west gets me stymied. I know which way to go but not necessarily the label to put on it!satchmo wrote:Pardon me,

Re: Kettle Moraine South, WI
Nice pics as usual.
We've had some good times at Kettle Morraine.
What kind of fish and what lake are they from?

Just little panfish, mostly Bluegill and one Pumpkinseed. Ottawa Lake, right from our campsite.yondermtn wrote:What kind of fish and what lake are they from?

Oh yeah, Ottawa. We've stayed there and the Pinewoods campground.
