Oh man, every year we wonder if the road still exists...
Timed the bus today, a little off. Dwell still OK. Have to go back out in the heat and finish cleaning up the mess of multiple camp trips! Including a dog-cleaned dutch oven and melted chocolate bars.

One of these years we're going to make it out to the PNW. I always envy your photos.

It's the same as there, only here. Luckily the bastards didn't take all the trees. Gave it a good "college try" though.
It is often a lot of work finding places that haven't been shattered.
Besides that, you always have a bunk here in Stumptown.

Much appreciated, however, one of the reasons for owning the bus is that we always have a bunk wherever we are.

If we do get out that way I'll be sure to look you up, though!

Yeah about that road -- The only time I've been to Hambone was in 2009 with my pickup (was rebuilding my bus engine at the time).

This is the part I get a little spooked out about. One wheel gets over that edge and you're done.

At this point I'm really not sure if I'm gonna make it or not .. I'm just not sure about going way into the woods with 1 day +/- of in-town road-testing the new engine. Just found the rest of my gear oil this evening, gonna fill in the AM and hopefully go to work with it...

Nothing crazier than usual. Fingers crossed!
I called the mfr. this morning, who transferred me to voice mail. I then sent them an email wondering where to buy in Portland. No answer. Internet searches turn up nothing. A pain in the ass I tells ya.

Found it at the Knecht's in Gresham -- Mike's Auto Parts carries the *brand* but not what I need and I couldn't see ordering a case (!!) and waiting a week.

It's handled, just don't have time to get much road testing in before Friday...

Hasn't started yet .. sounded good when I cranked it this morning but didn't catch, and then "oh crap I'm gonna be late for work!" hit and I was late for work.

Back on it in two minutes...

edit: it's alive but leaking (drip .. drip .. drip) where the water pump bolts to the block .. gotta drain the coolant and replace teh seal. Again. :banghead:

LEFT on 57
LEFT onto 58 (where 57 turns to gravel), climb to 4610 at High Rock.
LEFT on 4610, climb, look for Abbot Road sign on dirt road heading LEFT at crest of hill. Watcher ass on Abbot Road, steep narrow and rocky with a dramatic dropoff.

Same here - just a stop at the store for me too :thumbright:

Been looking forward to this. The weather should be beautiful up there. Hal, if you can get your leak fixed, I think you should road test your bus on the way there - Isn't every ride in a VW bus considered a road test?

Gonna cut out from work a little early so I should be rolling into camp around 4pm or 5pm tomorrow - maybe a little earlier. What time do you think you will be arriving, h-bone?

We'll probably leave in the mid-morning. I never sleep well the night before a camp, too nervous and excited, like a kid. And oh, the Abbot Rd.

Might make a cameo late tomorrow night or Saturday afternoon. It depends on my finances, thought I didn't owe rent this month, since I paid first and last when I moved in, and put in my thirty days two weeks ago, but the LL wants the rent with the last month to be returned later....
