Hello All

I just had a work delay and I'm taking off on a spontanious trip to the Olympic Penisula today. Does anyone have any favorite places to go? I will bring surf boards and I COULD bring a kayak. I've got about 4 days I could spend up there.

I can't wait. I've always heard it was a blow-your-mind type of place but have never spent any time there.

Please let me know your favorites and I will post what I find on this thread when I get back.

Oh, and on the off chance anyone wants to tag along I'm open to that...but I think I'm going to leave mid afternoon today from Portland.

Gotta love a stocked and ready camper when life gives you those unexpected opportunities.

Thanks
Frank

Sounds like a great trip.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but I rather enjoy a campground that's east of Lake Crescent called Klahowya. They have some reserved spots, and some that are first come first served. This time of year you'll find some open spots during the week, but Friday, Saturday & Sunday can fill up. There's not a lot to do around the campground itself, but it makes for a nice base camp.

If you like lake kayaking Crescent is a really nice place to go, especially on the north shore and toward the eastern part of the lake. Fewer tourists down that way.

There are a couple campgrounds up the Elwha river, also some of the best river kayaking in Clallam County.

I'm sure there are some other great places, just can't think of them right now. And I'm sure others will chime in.

Actually, the Olympic Peninsula is an Alice in Wonderland experience. Do check out the rain forest. Lake Ozette is really nice, with many camping spots that can only be accessed by watercraft, so bring the boat. From there, you can also take a short hike to the ocean shore for more fun and exploration.

Watch out for mice. Ask Westy78 about that.
