There is a fire ring right off the road, next to the lake. Perfect for a few buses.

Yeah, that's right -- where those arseholes took off and left their fire smoldering in the pit. Almost forgot about that...

So, tentatively, I know not if I be comin'.
How's the engine in the *other* camper? If it's a good runner you could borrow that one and swap it in a weekend...

Let's try to make it Squaw Lakes. Hal's been there. We have 2 weeks, we may luck out with the snow. It would be a great place for a late fall camp trip. Not far from Portland, FS 4610.
Plan B is still classified.

Sick bastards, the lot o' you.

1. Squaw Lakes (right on a gravel road next to the lake):

Image

2. or a mile down the road, Twin Springs Camp (abandoned, down in a slight bowl surrounded by noble fir):
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=45.2 ... 6&t=p&z=15
Image

3. Cache Meadow ("Bob's Buck Camp", next to Cripple Creek and close to lakes and meadows):
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=45.1 ... 6&t=p&z=15

All of these camps are above 4000'. If the weather turns for the worst, I have something in mind for lower elevations.

All 3 camps are beautiful. 2 & 3 are more private. All have about the same travel time from Portland.

Thanks Mike - They want me to take on more Idaho accounts eventually, which will bring me past your neck-utha-woods so I might be seein' you in your new hometown one day.

The lake site looks purdy, but I don't really give a rip. Pick one and get me GOOD directions, so I don't have to ask some camoflaged (sp) hunters how to find our camp :geek: Bob, give me an idear what route I'd take from my neck of da wood.

Hee hee...no shit. Of course no one knew that FR 560 was closed on the last campout. Thank goodness folks take notice of VW's in those areas or I would have been honking the horn for hours.

Mark if the weather cooperates then you can come across 216 then on 26 for a few miles towards Portland. Hop on FS 42 (westbound) to 57 which takes you to OR 224. That's pretty much the jump off point for wherever we wind up.
Here's the basic route for you Easterly folks:

I know the road. So...I'm assuming the spot(s) are east of Estacada? How far WEST of the 57 / 224 junction? Would I be catching the 4510? Or is there another road into the place? 4510 kind of dead ends into nothingness on the google map.
