Bah!!! That sucks! Hopefully things change so you can come out and play.

Mark, we are looking at maybe heading out Thursday night and camping along the way. This would give us an ETA of 1100 or so on Friday.

If we leave Friday morning our ETA should be about 200PM. We have a about a 250 mile ride so prolly about 5- 6 hours by way of the bus.

It's still up in the air. It depends on what Hillary does.

Wayne, Sorry to hear that you may not make it. We'll all hope for no news in the next few days.

I think this may be the place with (google directions).

I will be coming in in the dark and will be using my GPS for guidance.
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

Gyspie...oh, you don't like my detailed directions? :cyclopsani: Use your map but rely on my directions. I don't recall anything being marked Stockton road....my directions should remove any confusion that may occur. It is rather easy to find...once you get to the turn off to Bonney Crossing off of the 48. If you don't show, I'll know you have more trust in Google than you have in me :geek: :geek:

Spiffy...I have to watch Zane in a rehearsal Friday for a school play thingy he's in on Saturday (which I'm a bad dad for ditching but I'm the one who put the bug in all's ear for this trip...so I HAVE to see his rehearsal as a very scary turantula spider) ... I should be out of here by 11:30 at the very latest. Do you want to try to rendezVW in Tygh Valley or sometin? Would be fun to drive the last 15 miles with you in view...upwind would be preferred :geek:

Weather is supposed to be superb! 60 and sun here today....looking at 70 by Thursday with a slight cooling trend over the weekend....I do believe we nailed this one.

Hammy...the spot we're headed has landscape views as good as or better than the photos you posted...no creek except the one at the bottom of the canyon. I believe it will serve us well.

I'll bring some big 'ole hunks of hardwood to burn...wood gathering in the area should be plentiful but likely illegal. Pick up a pack or two at your local grocery store if you please. Likely won't be the only thing that occurs this weekend that extends into the gray big brother area of illegality. :drunken:

Ok finally looked at my map. I camped along FS140, on the north end of the canyon. FS160 is directly south of where I was (as th' crow flies). According to the map, that's BLM and Forest Service land so we should be OK collecting firewood but I'll bring some anyway.
That area east of Bonnie Crossing is part of the proposed Lewis and Clark Wilderness, let's hope it gets added!
Good directions BTW, I'm printing em' just in case!

Looks like we are headed out Friday Morning. The route we wanted to take along the Gifford Pinchot NF is closed for at least another three weeks. Looks like we will be I-5 monkeys for part of the way :pukeleft:

Expect us around 1400 or so.

I'll just meet 'chall up there then. Bob, if you want, call me before you leave and I'll meet you in Tygh Valley...or you can swing by here first...or, I'll just see you at the spot. 1/4 mile in on the right....huge views, fire pit, ....would work great if we could head in together and make sure we're in the right spot.

Hammy, great pictures and info as always, hope you guys have a great campout. What are the trees with the large trunks (one with dog) ? They look like oaks with the tops cut off. Just askin'

They are oaks, either Oregon white oak or scrub oak. It's a harsh environment (hot and dry) so they grow kinda weird. It's at the edge of the desert where the forests start on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Cool area.

Yeah, I'd guess scrub oak.

Set my valves today, adjusted the timing and ready to roll! Tomorrow I'm gonna hit the store and be ready to split early Friday.
Mark I could either meet you in Tygh Valley or at the campspot, no sense goin all the way to Maupin and back up again.

It looks like work is going to slam me hard on Friday. I have a job in Salem and I probably won't make it out untill 6 or so. Looks like I'm going to have to bail on this trip. I was really looking forward to it to. Take a bunch of pics and drink one for me.
