Buses By the Bridge 2013

Post by JLT » Sat Dec 08, 2012 1:41 pm

Well, it's happening again.

Buses by the Bridge in Lake Havasu City in Arizona, on the weekend of Martin Luther King's Birthday, January 17-20.

I'm planning to be there. The plan is to leave Sacramento on Wednesday and camp somewhere around Tehachapi on Wednesday night, and roll in on Thursday.

If anybody wants to split a campsite with me on Wednesday night and save a few bux, please PM me. Otherwise, I may just truck-stop it.

If the weather's foul, I'll be bringing the Tent of Doom so people can hang out without getting too wet. (If you've been to the Maupin event recently or camp much with the Gold Country Campers, you'll recognize it.) If it can't be set up on the grass for space reasons, I'll have it on the perimeter, and bring a firepit as well.

The official web page for the event is:

Drive safe, and I'll see y'all there!

Oh one of these years I will make that trek again. It was so nice to spend a couple weeks in the desert after the short, gray winter days of the PNW last time.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

I am *seriously* considering it for this year. It's a hell of a trek at 2 FULL days driving there and back (heck it's a full half day just from here to Sac JLT!)

It would be just me and the bus. The family said 'no way' to that much driving in the cold bus, only to then watch me freak out about busses the whole time. :p

Ive got the garage cleaned out and the bus pulled in as we speak, doing some maintenance and other updates - hopefully for this trip, or just because.

Well, let's see, Eureka, average summer temp 56* - average winter temp 53*, what's the difference?
Lake Havasu right now is something like 70/45*?

Image - it may have come up once or twice.

that said - my windows are wide open right now. once the sun comes out in the fall up here - it's quite pleasant.

im not complaining that the family doesn't want to do the whole trek though. i'll be able to power through as many miles as I can tolerate, no potty breaks, leg stretching breaks, 'just stop driving for a while' breaks - and with as far as it is - I don't want to take more than 2 days getting there. more room for me, and way way cheaper since I can just eat Raman noodles and fresh fruit (brought from home) along the way to help justify driving by myself in a bus getting 13MPG on the highway. (more on that in a different thread though.)

my goal for day 1 driving will also be the Tehachapi area - so the last day will be nice and short.

Hey Chris. I'm about 15 min. past Tehachapi. I can offer a camping spot or spare room, hot shower and a cold beer.

I went last year and it was a blast! I flew though so it was weird not being there with Miss Zora.
Hope to make it again - maybe next year.
