Shasta Snow Trip

Post by Roadcow » Wed Dec 27, 2006 11:25 am

Is anyone here planning on going. I've been a few times and have some friends from Ireland flying in to go with me again this year. I realize this is mainly a Bay window forun and the SST is for Splitties but you there is usually a few who own both. This trip is not for the feinthearted.

I got into it BIG TIME last year with those folks. I have a '69 but was told in no uncertain terms that "my kind isn't welcome" (like I'd abuse "Ma" in such a way anyway - I have respect). Ok, I tried to be reasonable, but all I got in response was the huge difference in mechanicals would make the trip impossible.
It's cool but kinda seems like a lot of huberis. I'd rather sit by a mountain stream glorying in nature, not conquering it. But that's just my P.O.V.

Yes they can be very obnoxious at times. Even I with a little pull was told in no uncertain terms no Baywindows on the trip ( I had prevoiusly taken my 68 DC and was welcomed with open arms but ribbed a bit too). This year I had no splitty so asked if I could nring my daughters Meyers Manx and was told no way. I've since found a Split. Sorry about your bad experience.

I wouldn't say it was a bad experience, just told me where the "groupthought" was. I tend to detest groups anyway, why would I want to hang around a bunch of singleminded fanatics? Life is a many faceted thingy.
Reminds me of grade school in the early 80s. If you didn't wear Nike shoes you were basically crap.

The last thing that this hobby/lifestyle needs is more exclusionary dick waving from self-important newbies.

I was setting the valves on my '64 before most of them were even born.

Who needs their attitude?

VW buses represent good times, not divisive malarkey from sniveling whiners.

What, no splitties allowed on the Arctic Circle Trip.If so, thats kinda hypocritical don't ya think. The more people, the more fun, let 'em run what they brung so to speak. I'm not going, to far, 4700 miles one way! 8, 10 hour days there and 8, 10 hour days back. Thats making 600 miles a day. I would imagine there would be days with better miles and days with much less miles, less miles especially when you get out into the real pucker brush areas. Wish I could though. If this becomes a regular event, maybe in the future.

I don't think that a "No Splittys" rule was ever mentioned.

On the Yahoo! Westfalia list, I don't allow such divisive, childish antics.

Speaking of which: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Westfalia/

The general "split" vibe was
"sorry. Go do your own trip, you're not welcome"
Sound familiar?

All you single-'shielders sing together

We're here...
We're clear....
Get used to it...

or maybe

but by the content of his beer stein...."
