Hello,
I've realized that my rpms are staying up a bit because the throttle valve isn't fully closing. The pic below should give you an idea.
The one on the driver's side has less of a gap, but there is one. The carbs are Weber 40 IDFs.
I tried to play a bit with the nut to change the pressure on the spring behind the throttle valve, but I didn't really notice a change.
Any suggestions on how to make the throttle valve close fully?

Is the choke on? Is the throttle linkage preventing it from going all the way to idle, if not I bet its adjustable.

Usually upgrading the worn out spring will rectify this. Make sure the linkage is not binding.

Disconnect the linkage at the throttle lever. If it now closes, your linkage is out of synchronization. It can be subtle when attempting to equalize airflow that you accidentally shorten one of the links and it pulls the throttle open.
While the link is off, see that the spring indeed is strong enough to close its throttle plate with authority.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I didn't have time to look into this today, but I will tomorrow, or Wednesday at the latest. I'll let you know what I find.

Hey guys.
So I disconnected the linkage, oiled it lightly, and played around a bit with the throttle return spring. When I put it back on, the problem seems to be solved (for now). I think that the linkage was in fact binding a little and the oil may have helped to smooth things out.
