Early-Bay Passenger Area Vent Window Adjustment

Post by dtrumbo » Thu Apr 01, 2010 8:51 am

Hi all,

So the vent windows in the passenger area (not the front) of my wife's '70 transporter are all loosey-goosey. They open and close fine, but there's no tension to keep them at any set angle. They just flap around. According to Bentley, there are tension adjusting screws lurking under the weatherstrip. I've looked and looked and can't find them. I even popped the vinyl panel off of the wall and felt around under the window with no luck. Can someone shed some light as to where/if these adjusting screws can be found?

Thanks!
- Dick

So I found this over on TS from our dear departed friend Karl.

It seems I haven't looked hard enough under the TWO layers of rubber that composes the window seal. I'll look harder when I go out to work on the bus again tomorrow and report back what I found and how it (v)went.

I have to re-seal mine some day. PO "fix" with tape and a prayer.
Who knows the quality of aftermarket seals though...the tape could last longer.

Be careful here . . . The usual cause of floppy vent windows is that rust has torn the window frame free of the spindle that is still nicely friction-clamped with that screw.

Advice taken. I'm certain there is rust lurking under the old, cracked window seals. I think I'll put this off until I have time to deal with all the things I don't want to find, but know I will.
