1972-79 Bus - Salvaging Window Seals

Post by Sluggo » Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:28 pm

I looked around Here & Samba but couldn't find a good answer. I want to pull the window seals that are only 2 years old and good German rubber from my '72 and put them in my '77.

Anyone know a good way to remove the seals without cutting them?

I mean you just need to ease the rubber over the pinch weld. There are some tools to make it easier. And a helper is probably a good idea, if only to catch the glass on the other side.

The windshield is trickier because of the curve and that it is a different type of glass.

THANKS! I don't need to do the windshield as I never got around to replacing it so I still have one in the package.

I love this part of the instructions.
Do not store lubricant in your tool box. Your friends will not believe you when you explain what it's for.

We shall conduct a massive Technical Forums clean-up later in the fall.

I am going to deputize a select few to help me edit this entire part of the site. You will be provided edit/delete privileges, and will have access to my phone number for judgment calls. One selected deputy per technical heading. You will be asked to retitle each post to include the make/model/technical question in shorthand. You will be asked to delete incidental threads like "me too" and irrelevant photographs. If you are interested, PM me. This will occur in November.

Excellente . . . pick your favorite technical topic that you have knowledge and interest in, and we will get things set up . . . in November when the cold rain is falling and the wet leaves are peppering the windows.
