Paint

Post by hambone » Sun May 10, 2009 9:58 am

Will fine art oil based paint hold up to the weather? Or should I get some outdoor Rustoleum?
Gonna try to get fancy on my bumper, red and black motifs.

Um....why don't you make stencils and use auto paint? I seem to remember other folks using rustoleum for stuff though...

What the heck are you talking about ~ red /blk ~ on your bumper? WHY?

Just me thinking about tring to make my '69 look cool for Maupin with a trash really old paint job from po. No time or coin to do anything better ~ so can't worrie bout it. But by -the- by , Hammie, do you have the original cover on the AC connection, drivers side. Els never had one and I don't know what to look for ? Picture would be great. Thanks

Ok, here's another suggestion now that I know it's for your bumper...

What about that magnetic sheeting that folks make business cards out of and put up on their doors? You could get some of that, paint it or cut it out and then place it on the bumper. No paint to clean up on the bus parts then!

It could work, but the bumper isn't flat.

Those magnetic thingies (who knows what they're called - magnetic signage?) are fairly pliable. Hey, I bet you could come up with a design and have that printed on one too!

Hiya Bob,

I don't think you want to use oil paints on the Bus. They are fairly fragile under the best of circumstances and a metal surface gives them little to adhere to. I'd think that the heat from the metal would separate that stuff pretty quickly.

If you're intent is to go permanent then something like Rustoleum would be a thought. Or the plastic magnetic approach offered by Z is an alternative.
