Sealing connections at the heater box/flapper.
I know I need the cuffs to seal the accordion tubes to the body and flappers (I'll be using rubber "Quick Connect" plumbing couplers). But what seals the ends of the pipe between the heater boxes and flappers? I've looked and can't find anything. Using aluminum foil tape for the moment.

Mine slide on but pop right off. Even when they stay on they don't form a good seal at all. But my heater box outlets are pretty bent up. I'll start looking around.

They are supposed to be a slip fit. Make the ends nice and round and don't over-tighten the 10mm clamp bolts. A little air leakage here is not a big deal with pusher heater fans like the factory supplied. Pull heat booster fans like the inline center tube deals are not so happy to have any air leaks.

VW used a white sealer. You will also see it on the overlapping engine tin.
Should be this stuff, made by Elring [VW gasket maker]:
Dirko, a paste-like, cold vulcanizing, elastic sealing and filling compound, gives excellent adhesion to metallic and non-metallic surfaces. Even if fissures, cracks and joint movements are present, Dirko guarantees a secure seal. It has a variety of uses as a gasket, as an addition to a gasket or as a sealant from the outside. Dirko stops oil, water and air leaks. Even parts with hairline cracks are made good again in a few minutes. Ideal for cylinder head joints, gearbox joints, sumps, bearing casings, instrument casings, water pumps and axle tubes. Temperature Range of Dirko is from approximately -50c to approximately +180c
But I have not been able to find a source for the white paste. Seems like all they make now is clear and red. http://www.reycomotor.com/Reyco/Elrings2.htm#Dirko
The cheapest I have seen the red stuff is here:
