Bus Engine Compartment Insulation

As a replacement for the original tar board stuff, what do you think of foil backed rigid insulation?

Colin, how is that stuff holding up?
About to drop the engine and transmission, have a lot of work to do in there....all has been a filthy mess so far.

What shiny new looking heater accordion tubes he has. Non-flammable material is good, too. I get to drop my engine and transmission next week. To put in a rebuilt transmission for the third time. I would highly advice one of those ATV/motorcycle jacks.

Yeahbut the other stuff is $11. Early Bay too, he only has a weird 1 piece ABS thing for way too much, $70?
I was thinking of painting it with spray undercoating, that would give the original tarboard look.
Speaking of heater tubes, ugh my heat tubes are proudly displaying crumbling white asbestos rings, maybe I should get new tubes and just toss this toxic crap...but that is another story.

Neal funny we are both in 3-rib transmission land at the same time, yours new mine bleah.

Holding up very nicely . . . but don't stab it with small screwdrivers or sharp metal. I have two patches of HVAC aluminum tape from such carelessness.

I think they are FINE. They just sit there. They hold their shape. They are like styrofoam blocks with a silver finish. But they don't like getting stabbed with screwdrivers or poked with errant preheater cable ends.
