Body Panel Vendors

Post by appetite » Fri Sep 20, 2013 9:46 am

Kind VW drivers,

Is there a consensus regarding what vendor makes/sells the best body panels? Specifically, the front windshield channel.

To wit:

http://www.busdepot.com/ahs29 - Just Kampers from UK, sold by Bus Depot

or

http://www.klassicfab.com/index.php/pro ... ry_id=1162 - Klassic Fab, newish vendor?

Thoughts, experience, etc?

Thanks,

James

I saw the klassicfab (funky green) panels at a vendor booth and they looked pretty good. If you have the money, you might try them. It all depends on how much/how big the repair is. If you just have a few pin holes in the gutter and want to replace a small section, get the less expensive option, cut off what you need, and save your money for other things, like paint ($$$).

On the other hand, if the rust extends over the front panel below where the windshield seal sits, you might not have a choice on which to get because the busdepot part only covers the lip and gutter area.

Understand that the rear edge/lip on the channel is a two layer seam with a million spot welds. If you used the entire klassicfab panel, you would need to drill out all those spot welds on the lower channel and part way up the A-pillar.
