What gauge wire do you use for fluorescent lights in a Bus?

Post by JereandJess » Mon Apr 18, 2011 6:15 pm

I need to replace the wires that go to the fluorescent light in the 78 bus.

The wiring diagram shows .5 mm as the "wire cross section"

I have not gone to the hardware store to compare, but I am thinking that it is closest to 18 or 20 gauge?

Does that sound right to you? Have you purchased wire lately for the bus? I need red and brown, and I am going to try to get the same colors to keep the wiring diagram accurate.

As always any assistance is most appreciated.

Thanks!
Jeremy

I would use 16 gauge. NAPA sells it in all colors, red and brown for sure.

I just looked it up and .5mm wire is pretty much 20ga. So get whatever closest size they have.

Thanks Dick, where did you look it up?

Just a simple google search?

Thank you!

Yup.

This was the first hit.

The boys at NAPA were plenty surprised when I told them that, in at least old VW's, brown was ground instead of black.
