Starter Issues

A hot start relay is just a bandaid. Sounds to me like it's time to replace the starter...

Hope this isn't hijacking, but I always figured it was the ignition switches that got weak.
Replacing the starter really fix these hot start problems when a relay can "fix" it too?

I've had starters go bad, a few times. The relay will prolong the life of the starter but will not change the inevitable and the starter will eventually need to be replaced. So no "fix" is achieved. Fingers crossed, I've had no trouble with my ignition switch. (Damn, now I've said it, so guess what I'll be dealing with next?)

Neal's trouble could be the ignition switch but it also could be the starter. Based on my experience, it's likely a starter issue. I had hot start relay for a couple of years, and things were ok for a while. Looking back, I wish I had just got another starter.

So, evidently, the solenoid was worn enough that a small boost in voltage provided by the relay allowed it to kick-in all the way....I'm guessing here.

Ok, well, I let it sit for five, six days, and by golly, it didn't fix itself. Dag nab it Luke.

So did the jumper, and same thing. Things kick, but no spinny of engine.

Bad switch, it will not even kick, or will kill the engine randomly.
Clean your contacts and replace that damn starter already. Don't make me stop this bus. Your bus, but alas it is already too late.

Sometimes it's best to replace critical parts with new...if you can afford it. What if that old starter craps out in the boonies somewhere?

Hmmm, new Bosch starter made in Brazil. And apparently a bushing to replace where the shaft sits in the tranny bell housing. I wonder how easy the old is is going to be to remove. Looks pretty straight forward, especially with the ENGINE out, othewise, hmmm.

Don't recall if the starter I pulled from Bertha was new or rebuilt, as I didn't do the work, and I don't remember the bill. This was seven years ago there abouts.

It can be a bitch with the engine in, especially when the old one falls into the bell housing. Engine out would be smooth sailing.
