1975 Bus - #7 Fuse Has No Power
I installed two cigarette lighter outlets yesterday, one in the dash and one under the rear seat. I read that it's appropriate to wire these outlets through the #7 "accessory" fuse however my #7 has no juice so I used #9. I'm assuming that the reason is that there is no power going to that fuse because nothing was wired to it all, as if there is no "power in". Any ideas what I need to do to bring power to that fuse?

Re: 1975 Bus - #7 fuse has no power
Fuse 9 has no other meaningful purpose in life, so you can just leave it the way it is. If you want to "activate" fuse 7, run a jumper from the "input" to fuse 9 over to the "input" to fuse 7. This will give you hot-all-the-time power. If you want switched power, run your jumper from the "input" to fuse 12 instead.BellePlaine wrote:Any ideas what I need to do to bring power to that fuse?

Re: 1975 Bus - #7 fuse has no power
Be very hygienic and conservative with your wiring and terminals. Find the big wire coming up from the starter solenoid/battery cable post and make sure it has a good path to #7 input. VW normally uses a buss bar to bring power over to fuse terminals.dtrumbo wrote:Fuse 9 has no other meaningful purpose in life, so you can just leave it the way it is. I would have to look at it to be sure. You can tell because as Colin mentioned, the input side of the fuse box typically has a bus bar between some of the fuses. The output side typically only has one connection per fuse.

Pull fuse and turn on ignition, and see for yourself which side has power.BellePlaine wrote:For clarification, is the input BELOW the fuse and the output ABOVE the fuse?
Sometimes they are a bit wacky.

It's definitely something that has to be determined by the person doing the work at the time they're doing it. When you're standing on your head, upside down and backwards under the dash, up and down become very subjective.
