Intermittent Radio Reception

This is an interesting problem. A weird problem.

My radio worked fine for the first month or so after I installed it. Recently, after I've been listening to it for a few minutes, it's like the FM reception goes to pot. It's inconsistant, some stations are worse than others, it seems to fade in and out. AM's better, although it's affected too.

Now the kicker is that if I turn the ignition off, my problem goes away and reception is crystal clear.

What's going on?

I would think interference from a wire.

Almost too simple to mention, but, a loose antenna connection? When the engine's off you probably aren't moving so no possibility of a jiggly connection. Just a thought.
