Well I installed it in my '69 Bus. The IGNITOR. For vacuum only distributors.
Incredible difference. Bus feels like a hotrod. Smooth thru RPM band, starts right up, engine cool.
I was holding onto points for so long, but the Bus seems to run much better this way. Hopefully it holds up.

Hmmph. I say your points and condensor had a defect. We shall drag race in 2017. Points VS Pertronix 1600 Singleport Showdown.

Dragsters can run three-abreast when they're this slow, right? Count me in. Why, I didn't look at my points for 8,000 miles, and last week I was at 44* dwell and 1*atdc timing. I'll take it. Of course, my condenser is OLD, dirty, and says "Germany" on it.

Electronics are fun, until it's 112* outside and they're not.

Did you re-time the engine after the install?

When I first bought my bus, it had an 009 with Pertronix installed in it. I'll admit that it ran fine w/it in place. However, I ALWAYS was fearful of it suddenly "popping" and killing the engine. Now with my 205Q installed with German points and condensor, I have no further worries about that kind of event. I recently sold that 009 and it's installed Pertronix too. Bye bye..

I bought a brand new 1990 Honda accord back then. At about 37k miles, I was breezing down the freeway on a hot summer day. Suddenly the car just quit. Nothing like being broken down on the side of the road in 105* heat. Long story short, the electronic module in the distributor shit the bed, killing the engine. I had it towed to the Honda Dealer. I was told the car was out of warranty (36k) BUT, there was a recall notice for this bad distributor thus, it was repaired for free.

I like the idea of the Pertronix but I just have read too many stories of it shitting the bed at the worst times. I've always run points and condensers in 35+ years of VW ownership and they've never left me on the side of the road

I am at 10 years and 40,000 miles on my set of Pertronix with no problems in my Westy......Points in the Ghia are going today as they wear and affect the timing pretty quickly. Bought a Pertronix set to replace them in the 914 dizzy I put in when the vacuum cam died in the oem dizzy.

I did time it statically afterwards.
While there are horror stories, I have never met someone who had one. I'm telling ya the engine runs much better!
We will see. It turned a single port in to a dual though.

Oh the humanity! Next thing you know you'll be running a gas generator in camp.

I'm selling the bus for one of those big motorhomes. F it.

What the hell, may as well upgrade and get yourself one of these bad boys!

My Pertronix lasted six months or so. I didn't really notice any difference. It's demise was due to operator error. Had it out for some reason and hooked it up backwards. Poof.

I might have to after yesterday's bozo-Bosch marathon with Grifftenstein here in Minnesota.

IMPOSSIBLE to get the point gap correct, because:

a) metal is now so soft it develops an impression at the last gap adjustment and tries to go back to it

b) the pivot (once a beautiful brass thing) is now a cheesy piece of crap that would not fit in the breaker plate.

Bosch has a Quality Control Public Relations vice-president, whose job clearly is to blow smoke up your a$$ while they continue their relentless quest to make ever more lousy crap.
