Lubrication of blower motor.

Post by Jivermo » Thu Nov 28, 2013 8:56 am

During Colin's recent visit, we messed around with my heater system briefly. The blower motor squeaks when running. I took it apart, and the motor is encased within a steel jacket. Any hints on lubrication? There are two holes in this body, one larger oblong, and one smaller slot at the tail end. I hesitate to pump oil into an unknown pathway.

I had the same problem. Tore the entire motor down only to concede defeat as the motor is NOT disassemble-able. I purchased a 12 volt Dayton motor of similar size and capability from Grainger and installed it. At one point, Scott at German Supply was selling NOS complete blower motors but a quick check on his site shows them to be out of stock.

Heck, did I send you down a dead-end path? My 1973 bus blower motor was disassemblable.
You are Mr. Motor Man, you know you are, go fer it.
Get some "electrical winding shellac-safe" non-detergent motor/turbine oil and go nuts and drench that b***h, just go to town on it. Pry the motor "axially" to help lubrication into the bushings you cannot see. Baptism! Immersion! Now let it drain, if you have compressed air, you can maybe help it get nicely un-oiled.
Now try it . . .

Thanks, Randy. Neat article. I did the Colin drench, and put it back in. It's now quiet, at least for the moment.

Appears to end up with exactly the conundrum stated above . . . late motors are not disassemblablablable.
So Randy . . . what is your improvisational recommendation other than the Oil Baptism already suggested?

Jivermo? If it is quiet, I am hopeful.
