tough time shifting into reverse?

I am not well read on tranny stuff at all. I am trying to read all I can. I have some issues such as a leak, it needs new oil and a tough time shifting into reverse.
Is the bushing something that could fix this?

A new front bushing might help but a double check of the stop plate adjustment should be on the menu too.

Thanks, got my Bentley out. I sometimes need to ask questions before I do too much reading. Time is so limited, after 7.5 months I can now finally put the baby down at night!! It is so liberating.
It looks like:
Get new shifter bushing.
Adjust clutch cable, including stop plate.

That should help things out quite a bit. I'd do the cable adjustment first. That might be all it needs.

That sort of description is difficult for the IAC Help Desk to get its teeth into. What is tough. The movement of the gear shift, or the fact that you can hear teeth getting knocked off the gears?

I have to keep pushing down and trying to engage it into reverse. Over and over, sometimes there is not a problem others I am sitting in the road and need to get out of the way. I don't like to force it but when I have there is either a grind or a clunk when I do engage it. I can usually feel the teeth as I try. Does that help?

Sometimes if you engage 1st, pull foward a little, stop, then try reverse it may help. This works well with some cranky transmissions. It moves the gears around. Good luck!

Letting out the clutch, while in neutral, and then pushing the clutch back in can reset mischievous synchros. A lot better than forcing it in.
