clutch kits

Post by Ritter » Fri Mar 21, 2008 9:42 am

For my July Itinerant mission, I will be replacing the clutch. Educate me, please.

Who makes a good kit? Any parts need to be machined or are all just replaced? Which seals should be replaced while I have access? Other miscellanea that I am missing? Many thanks.

Sachs is a well regarded brand of clutch components for our Bays.

Inspection will reveal if the pressure plate is extremely heat damaged and should be replaced. The flywheel can also be damaged by heat and can be machined to bring it back to life.

The pilot bearing in the flywheel can be lubed or replaced if needed, and the throwout bearing can be replaced if it is noisy.

You'll also be able to replace the main oil seal on the crankshaft by removing the flywheel, if you have oil leaking from there.
