Automatic Transmissions

Following are a few links that I have found that will help the few of us with these not so abundant but very hearty transmissions.

Manuals:
http://www.txchange.com/atsg.htm
And of course the Bentley manual.

Go Westy write up:
http://www.gowesty.com/AT_failure2.htm

I will add more as I find them.

As far as personal experience goes with my 010, the thing has been great and is going on 192K miles with only fluid and filter changes. The final drive gaskets are hard to find and a pricey, I just got mine from German Supply for around $30 but it is a genuine VW part and Scott Lyons pursuaded me that indeed $30 is cheap for a part that should last 15 years. The trans filter and gasket sets a in expensive and I have had good luck with the Bus Depot kits. For those who need new axles...take care to get the auto-specific ones as they are not the same length on each side of the transmission. There are a few rebuilders out there for the 010 due to its use in other vehicles (this is a GOOD thing) last time I checked an outfit down in OR wanted about $600+core for a rebuilt 010. The final drives, I have heard cost much more.

for the Brits out there, the following site sells parts for 003 and 010 transmissions:

www.jpat.co.uk

Also there is a auto-VW forum! Mainly inhabited by Beetle autostick types:

I ordered a torque converter seal from Long Enterprises by my case number and it was the wrong one :/ The dealer had all the parts I needed. I know this is usually the last place we think of to get parts, but they got me what I needed. when the supposed "specialists" couldn't.
