'65 Split - Clutch Cable
My clutch cable started coming apart near the pedal lever. It was just hanging on by a couple of strands. The pedal dropped to the floor. I had no clutch.
I cut the remaining strand and removed the lever. Bently tells me to go to the rear, remove the adjusting nut, then pull out the old cable. The clutch arm is pretty far up there in the rear. Bentley says nothing about removing heater tubes and boxes. Am I missing something? I have not yet adjusted the clutch on this vehicle. It's an easy reach on my Beetle. I would expect that for a routine maintenance chore. Just hoping that someone has a time saving "trick" for this one.

Re: '65 Spit - Clutch Cable
Just get in there, you can do it! If it's like a '70 my preferred position is lying underneath the bus with my feet near the rear passenger's-side wheel and my head near the rear driver's-side wheel. That way you can snake both arms up there.

You are missing something, the German's penchant for making you VERK for your transportation, bekommen Sie Ihren Esel unter dort und tun Sie es, SCHNELL!retro1302 wrote: Am I missing something?

Please note that you should spend some time to get comfortable and deliberate. It makes the job easier, more accurate, and you hate the car less. Some people try to bend elbows around the wrong way, try to loosen the nut with a heater lever gouging their wrist, and they bleed needlessly.

And whatever you were doing under the bus with Sam, really, too much information.
Anyways, enjoy your clutch cable repair Saturday morning under the bus.
