I have the flywheel off and am replacing seals.........

What is a good trick to get the pilot bearing out?

A pilot bearing puller/slide hammer is your best bet, available at AutoZone for free rental. Use a hardwood to protect the flywheel from the "pressers". It lets go with a sharp report, so don't be nervous.

I found that a Lisle hydraulic valve lifter puller (PN 13750) worked just great for pulling the pilot bearing in my '81. The diameter of the business end of the tool is just small enough to fit inside the bearing when fully compressed.

Judging from a Google seach for that part number, though, Lisle may have discontinued production of that tool. Shame.

I actually remembered after I had posted that I had a slide hammer tucked away. 3 pulls and pop.
