Just for my own edumacation...
Does the cable make any turns after leaving the bowden tube? (i.e. forward from the bowden tube to up to the pedal connection), I am trying to imagine the transfer of power from the pushing of the pedal to pulling the cable...
Nope. It is almost a dead straight shot. Where's Hambone? If that cable was getting yanked upward as Hambone pushed on the pedal, it would saw the forward top edge of that metal tube.

Funny last night in my ether stupor I was thinking the same thing. That is the first thing I will check this morning, on a wet driveway AGAIN. My own damn fault for not fixing it right to begin with.
I also need to check the bowden sag, I didn't last time, looked "close enough".
Thank you. It makes me edgy when things fail too soon. That scary *pop* and then the pedal drops to the floor.
I found these on Samba yesterday:

Ok, I'm back. Yes, the lever was on backwards. The cable actually snapped from the metal retaining crimp at the end. Also, the clevis pin hole is ovaled and should probably be replaced. Also, the bowden sag is inadequate.
All the stress in my life is making for some pretty shoddy mechanicing. All these broken VWs...

I am glad you found the source of this issue. Now you can be relieved that it will likely be a lasting repair.

I will only tease you mercilessly for a little while. :pirate:

Kirk even has a spare cable arm! I called around, nobody has one nearby. Discount Import has them though, they sure carry some weird stuff. Too bad they're so far.
I am obviously not thinking clearly lately. And I'm stupid enough to admit it!

Not stupid at all. Rather I would call it courageous...

We all need to be reminded to 'measure twice cut once'.

Or make sure you have put both sides of your cam bearings in....(doh!)

or make sure that you removed all of the cylinder shims so you don't have one cylinder sitting tall and proud above the others....(double doh...)

or take the time to do deck height calcs when you assemble an engine from multiple engines and a mixture of new and used parts...(triple doh)

The preceding Doh moments brought to you by Gypsie the engine grim reaper...

Clevis pin has failed again...I think I mounted it upside-down last time....all the old diagrams show the clip's opening facing upward. Well it lasted since April. The cable is still fine. There is a slight *click* when the pedal is almost to the floor however. The pedal is nice and smooth, I sure hope this lasts and the *click* is unimportant. There were a couple weird pedal *grinds* over the summer but they instantly went away, I should have listened. But do you listen to every squeak and freak out?
It was a hell of a 10 miles last night with no clutch pedal, but somehow about 6 traffic lights all timed green for me, I must have someone looking out for me cosmically.

As noted elsewhere, maybe in the Itinerary posts somewhere, the clevis *pin* needs to rotate in the clevis clip. Then it acts like a bearing and does not get sawed in half. What kind of grease do you use? I slather the CV molybdenum disulfide grease into everything up there, as an inveterate double-clutcher, I give my clutch pedal/arm/pivot/pin/clevis/cable/bowden tube quite the work-out.

the clevis *pin* needs to rotate in the clevis clip
]

I have not found a reliable source for these. Once I got one by accident, and when I called to order more the phone-jockey proceed to tell me how "nah nah nah that kinda thing doesn't exist yours must be broken and we won't send you another one."

Mine was breaking at the clip, not old enough for the pin to wear thru...
Used a decent amount of Moly grease, not gobs though.
I will try to find the rotating ones, yeah good luck I know.
2 years of cable issues, randomly I'm gettin paranoider.

An Itinerant Air-Cooled visit would spell the end of your clutch troubles . . .

Yeah yeah I'll share my can of beans.
http://www.germansupply.com/home/custom ... ctid=18026
They have them, but their customer service seems to suck lately according to Samba reviews...long waits, no communication etc.
I have looked over the internet for a spell but haven't found anything else. Maybe it's worth a chance for a rare part.
