Cheapest Freight for engines?

Post by upnorthman » Sat Jun 06, 2009 7:41 am

I found a used engine and am wondering what people have found to be the cheapest way to ship one. I found that FedEx wants $500 but I thought that I saw $300 somewhere else.

It would be nice if there was someone planning a trip from Connecticut to Northern Michigan!! (in a pickup truck of course)

What you need is a pal who works on a loading dock.
Regular LTL shippers get substantial discounts that we little people don't get.

Plus, they will have the tool to strap the damn thing onto a pallet and might also have a pallet jack.

He's not kidding. I've never shipped anything that big, but I know they charge next to nothing to get stuff from point A to point B.

See if the guy your going to buy it from can deliver it to Fedex's dock... if so, and you are willing to pickup at the closest Fedex dock near your home, ses how much fedex wants if it's just a terminal to terminal move. LTL shippers charge a premium for residential delivery, on top of that, this would also require lift gate service if delivered to your home, which they charge additionally.

Hiya up,

I'd definitely check out Robert's suggestion of using Greyhound. However, I do believe that Greyhound does have weight restrictions on what they can accept for shipping.
