Why would the top of a new shaft (where the distributor engages) have 2 slots crossing each other in a "+"? Which one do I use?

edit:
upon further inspection, only one of the slots is offset, the other is centered. What the hell would use a centered slot? Who knows, maybe a Trabant. Well it looks like it will work.
