Oil Pump Issue

Post by hambone » Tue Jan 06, 2009 2:45 pm

New 1600 case, VW Brazil
Shadek 26mm oil pump, dished cam

The pump outlet does not line up with the case oil passage, it overlaps about 1/2", restricting flow. What the heck? Inlet lines up pefectly.

I'm considering ordering a Febi pump to see if the issue still exists. But at $50 a pop I wanted some other opinions first.
thank you as always!

With great care, you can flare the outlet with a round file to help index with the case hole. Requires disassembly and cleaning. Isn' this aftermarket stuff maddening and insulting?

Most of the overlap is on the case, so I'd have to ream the case passage a bit larger...and I don't wanna! What if the NEXT pump doesn't fit right because of my stupid mod?
I think I'm going to have to order the damn Febi. At least it's made in Europe.
Ya know, everybody loves ACN, but this is the second low quality part I've gotten from them. First was the new singleport manifold that didn't line up with the head studs. But before I know for sure I'll have to check the fit of a different pump.

I don't love them. John's been very unhelpful at times.

It just proves (unfortunately) that none of the vendors are perfect. I'm glad that you call them out (both good and bad) so we all know what we're dealing with when it comes to buying aftermarket parts and from whom we're buying them from.

I just emailed ACN with my issue and concerns but only received a return authorization...I guess that means they can't fix the problem? A couple of lines of text wouldn't have killed them..."sorry for the trouble etc."
I'm sending the sucker back and ordering the Febi. I'll let you know what happens. Hopefully the Febi won't be worse!
