Oil Pressure Relief Valve

Post by hambone » Tue Dec 23, 2008 8:09 pm

Another question then - our local VW FLAPS sold me a German "case reconditioning kit" with the oil valves springs etc. and type3 oil filler blockoff plate. For some reason the pressure relief valve isn't grooved, it's a solid piece. Is this OK? Bentley shows both. Again - this is for a later Brazilian case so maybe smooth is an earlier style.
The valves are either slightly tarnished or covered with preservative. I'm sure they'd clean up ok with emery cloth.......

Many new parts will ship with cryoline wax to prevent rust. Cleans off easily.
If you have a choice, go for the grooved pressure relief valve but a solid control valve. The groove helps feed the bearings with oil when the relief valve is transitioning from closed oil cooler to open oil cooler gallery.

Guess what, the only pressure relief valves available with the step are Empi. And they're "high pressure" and larger dia. than standard.
I'm keeping what I've got. Interesting.
