Distributor

Post by westy78socal » Tue Oct 03, 2006 11:24 pm

From my visit from Colin, I found out I had a petronix distributor. I figure the opinion in here might be one sided but I thought I'd ask anyway. Is it better to have a petronix distributor and what are the advantages of both kinds?

Pertronix Distributor? This means you have a stock distributor with a Pertronix module instead of points and condenser, right?

Assuming that to be the case, the Pertronix will always provide perfect, consistent dwell (as opposed to points which degrade over time), and a perfect connection for the coil.

On the downside, if the Pertronix fails, you are going nowhere fast. But they are known to be extremely reliable.

Pertronix

I want to avoid getting stranded so I was looking for distributors to have in my emergency kit. According to Ratwell it looks like they only have distributors with points and condensors now. Is that right? Anyone know where to get a pertronix?

Hey man, Petronix is an aftermarket part you drop into a distributor to replace the points and condenser. It gives your bus an electronic ignition instead of the old setup.
I've used points for years without hassle, but others like electronic. Sup to u.

just carry some points to replace the pertronix if it fails. If the dizzy itself fails, the pertronix can be swapped into a new one.

Pertronix has been in my dizzy for two years now problem free and the combo of the AC.Net Dizzy and the module are providing wonderful driveability and gas mileage...don't be skeered! (can't believe I just said that)

Me neither. :colors:

I've had my Pertronix in for about two years now with no problems at all. Dwell hasn't drifted one bit since. Just make sure you hook them up correctly or you have just blown $60. Like others have said though, always carry a spare set of points and condensor. Better yet, a spare dizzy with points and condensor all loaded up. Makes for a super easy swap if needed.
