Type1 heat riser (single port)

Post by hambone » Fri Apr 13, 2007 10:39 am

I have a slight leak coming from the exhaust where the manifold pipe joins the heat riser. How can this be patched with the manifold installed on the engine? JB Weld? Actual weld? I'm worried that sparks would cause the engine to explode....
I guess worse case I'd have to replace the manifold. The metal that's wrapped around both horizontal pipes below the carb is cracked longitudinally, but the leak is only a carbony pinhole on the left side....

if its just a small hole, JB will work. clean thoroughly..perhaps even cram a small screw in the hole first before JB..if it makes you feel better

i dont believe exhaust gas will combust, except maybe under massive compression

I was thinking of the weld sparks being so close to the carb..
I'll try the JB Weld first what the hell. But I think I'll just get a new used manifold, pretty cheap fix. Do you think that can be replaced with engine in the car? Have to pull the carb and maybe the generator.

I think it would be possible with the engine still in the bus, just not fun. But hey, it really wasn't fun with it out either so what the heck!
