single port oil cooler

On a 1970 single port 1600,,which grommets do i use ? On the original case (Ghia) one port is 9mm wide and the other is 12mm. The late style grommets fit the 12mm but what to use on the smaller side? (other grommets with smaller ID are much thicker..and supposedly for type 3)

You sure that is a Ghia case? There is no such thing, really.

Does it have dual relief?
Does it have rear mounting holes for a carrier?
Case letter prefix?

As a general rule, seals are 8mm / 8-10mm step / 10mm .

dont have serial number offhand, but when i looked it up..type 1 1600 single port, 1970. Single relief. Old style oil cooler (the WW2 looking thing..not doghouse style)
according to Wilson book 'use late style grommets on 1970 and up....but confused as to why one port is clearly narrower than the other by at least 2 or 3 mm...

Perhaps because the 1970 Type 1 single-relief engine had 8mm galleries . . . ?

Most single port engines used the short black tubes that crushed to seal when the cooler was torqued down. larger round green seals were also found to work with one fitted to the smaller hole and the other turned upside down for the larger hole. I would stick to whichever works best for you. Ainokea
