I cannot recommend Headflow Masters at this time. I will update as new information becomes available.

Answer me this riddle one: why do so many of us purchase engines built by other companies? Are our cores damaged beyond rebuildable? Time constraints?

I have only built two, and done top end jobs on two. I have wasted money. I have wasted time. BUT my "rash of problems" are MY rash.

Seems to me that I would rather be mad at me than at someone else. I still detest MOFOCO, for example. My anger certainly doesn't hurt them...

Some people don't have the time nor the skills to rebuild a engine so it's a way to keep their bus running. Two weeks ago I visited some friends in Helena, MT and he said come watch me change the battery in the Bobcat. Geez, after 30 minutes of watching I said can I try and had it installed in 5 minutes. Some people are fumble fingered....as this guy is a talented blacksmith.

I fear that Adrian is at the front lines of a new reality and is scrambling madly to keep it all happening. Cores are deteriorated, parts are shoddy, staying in business is a challenge.
He needs to develop a system that prevents getting buried under returns. Avoidable errors are the most painful. Avoid them.

sandblasting residue in rocker areas (fatal if it was a Type 1)
drain plug stripping out on loosening
gallery plug popping out with Loctite residue
silver paint over dirty case aluminum
cam/lifter failure (this was a Type 1)
unsolicited aftermarket valve covers (they leaked)
inferior distributor than one shipped
unsolicited performance cam
low oil pressure (2)
unsolicited modified oil relief valve
oil leaks (2)
end play near wear limit (2)

so what does it come down to ? shortage of usable cases ? inadequate machine work ? bad decisions on part of builder ? un-availability of parts ? or unrealistic expectations of clients ?

I had the lifter failure on my type 1 during the break in. It was a bummer for sure and not sure what causes it but I sent it back to him and he rebuilt it and returned it very quickly (3 weeks?), paid for shipping, changed a couple parts I wasn't sure about ( valve covers, extra large flywheel nut and put the stock oil relief back in), I put it back together, long block, and stuffed it back in the bus and hit the road. I now have over 7500 miles on it since June. Countless passes, fully loaded westy with family, several over 100* days, basically driving the heck out of it.
It's running great and still not a drop of oil in my driveway.
No complaints on this one at all. It'll be interesting to see how many miles I get out of it. Stock 1600 dp.
I think he gets really busy at times so plan accordingly.
I've never met him but he seems like a good guy.

Cool. glad it worked out in the end. Im curious about lifter failure..are lifter bores re-sleeved or some other component in valve train going haywire?
