Exhaust/muffler options for '78 Bus.
Anyone know of a muffler setup for a '78 that is quiet, but good sounding, and tucks up close to the bumper like stock? Seems the '78 has limited aftermarket options. I got rid of my obnoxious monza 4-tip and now have a pseudo-stock thing that sounds terrible. The monza had no back-pressure, and I had no low end with it. I was tired of waking up all the campers, too... I need something stealthy.

There is this one:

I have no experience with that setup. As you said, not too many options.
I ended up converting to 72-74 HE's and exhaust when I did my rebuild.

Sure glad I did it on mine. Much simpler system, better exhaust options, and better heat output.Amskeptic wrote:Please share your experience with our inquirer, are you glad you did it?poptop tom wrote: I ended up converting to 72-74 HE's and exhaust when I did my rebuild.

So far, so good. Seems like a nice setup. I went with new Dansk HE's purchased a few years back from Bus Depot.Amskeptic wrote:Please share your experience with our inquirer, are you glad you did it?poptop tom wrote: I ended up converting to 72-74 HE's and exhaust when I did my rebuild.

The exhaust is the Thunderbird setup sold by Raby.
I probably haven't logged enough miles to really comment on longterm quality. At this point, I'd say my heat output is dismal. I need to get to the bottom of why.
The biggest headache was acquiring the 72-74,79 engine tin, etc., necessary for the conversion.
